Freezing temperatures encourage more orders for socks but the goats still have their fleeces on!
As soon as the temperature drops, the phone rings and the website buzzes with orders for people desperate for more Corrymoors, especially from customers who have been given socks for Christmas. This makes January a busy time for us, as we also normally shear the winter fleece off the goats during the first week. (The second shearing is in July). However, this year's freezing temperatures have meant that we will have to wait for better weather before we remove the 3-5kgs of warm mohair. The goats have quite a comfortable time during the winter as they are housed, unlike the poor sheep and cattle who are struggling in the snow waiting for their supper. The snow and ice make for hard work on a farm but at least the animals have full bellies.
