Description

The Stripe socks

For men, women and children. Our finest gauge of sock with a lightly elasticated top. Resilient and will keep their shape after many days of wear. Odour resistant (smooth mohair fibres have nowhere for smelly foot bacteria to lurk). Can be machine washed at 40⁰c (see washing instructions). Our Stripe designs are constantly being updated, please keep checking for current stock availability and colour combinations.

Fibre Content
62% Corrymoor Mohair, 38% JAS Nylon

Why add nylon? Mohair itself has relatively little elasticity and so we add nylon to give extra stretch. The nylon does not detract from the beneficial effects of the mohair.

This company is a little gem, and I must thank the ‘Best of British’ website for alerting me to them.

I at first just fancied their socks on fairly superficial aesthetic grounds-thought the Devon Stripe variety had a certain ‘mod’ 60’s look-(or is it a 30s PG Wodehouse look…?). Whatever, they looked stylish…but all frippery aside, when I received them, and saw the qualities already enumerated here, I understood what the fuss is about. They actually ‘feel’ better on your feet, as if your feet are able to breathe better, I suppose you can only understand what I’m trying to articulate it if you wear them.
Instead of going down the ‘buy cheap buy twice’ route, get these, and they’ll last you and be cheaper in the long run. The other thing that no-one else seems to have mentioned is the friendly and warm personalised customer service. Any worries / issues I had were addressed very quickly. Almost like customer service from a kinder and gentler age. If only all companies were like this. I can’t imagine buying any other type of socks now.

I bought these and two other pairs of Corrymoor socks, I wanted to see if they were as good as what people said. After nearly a year of wearing them as often as I washed them they show little signs of wear, while I’ve had to throw a few other pairs of my favourite socks out because they are holey, these are lasting well. Sometimes I wear them the second day (or a third if I’m hiking) they don’t get smelly like normal socks…. just thinking of any bad points…. I would say price but can’t because they are worth it, I’ve just ordered some more for me, my dad (he appreciates quality) my mum and my Mrs… who don’t….yet.

Now Spring is here I have progressed from a winter warmed with a selection of Companion socks to Devon Stripes. Still warm and comfortable. Excellent quality.

I bought my first pair at the Royal Welsh Show and quickly found the benefits and qualities of these garments. I love the striped patterns along with you can wear them for several days with no hint of foot odour. I wear mine to go running in as they don’t chafe or wear at the friction points they also wear well in daily usage. They do have a different texture to normal wool socks but that’s from the unique yarn from the Angora goats, I highly recommend these socks and will definitely acquire more striped patterns for my collection.

I got these for xmas and always get complimented in the office. They are comfortable and great with normal shoes.

I love these socks. They feel a bit rough but when you put them on they are so soft and warm. I’ve bought them for my brother in law too. He was straight on the website buying more!

Caring for your socks

“In 25 years the mohair fibre and ingredients of your Corrymoor Socks haven’t changed…..but detergents and washing machines have.”

So what is the best way to care for your Corrymoors?

  • Do not use detergents containing enzymes—check the detergent packaging
  • Wool wash at 40°c
  • Use a gentle spin (most wool washes will incorporate this into the cycle anyway)
  • Do not tumble dry
  • Wash dark colours separately at first

A Bit of Science and tips on washing
Mohair is a fibre made up of the protein keratin (like your own hair, silk, wool and other animal fibres). The scales of the mohair fibre are flattened and overlay each other giving a smooth surface (unlike wool). This gives mohair its smooth handle and high lustre and your Corrymoor Socks their unique hard-wearing, anti-bacterial (no smell), wicking and non-felting properties.

Mohair has a much greater resistance to shrinking and felting than other natural fibres, but it too finds it hard to resist the action of the protease enzymes found in many of the “low temperature” detergents. Sadly, the enzymes cannot tell the difference between dirt and the protein fibres of the mohair which can ultimately weaken and breakdown resulting in slight shrinkage and felting of your beloved Corrymoors.

For your Information (although we do not recommend you try this out at home)
Corrymoors are dyed in water which reaches boiling point, this is then followed by rinsing AND spinning AND tumble drying!

Why not choose to have your socks without the cardboard sleeve? For many years, repeat customers have chosen to receive their socks with reduced packaging.

Please note: We do not recommend this option if you are a NEW CUSTOMER or if the socks are a GIFT as it contains the washing instructions, style and fibre content etc.

Here at Corrymoor we are always looking to reduce our carbon footprint. Where possible we try to use sustainable products that can be recycled/composted in your household waste.
